Associate Degree

  • In the US, after graduating from a two-year program at a community college, students will receive an Associate degree.
  • Associate degree is divided by subject, such as Associate in Arts, Associate in Applied Science or Associate in Business Administration… After completing 90 credits and receiving this degree, students can work or transfer to other programs. 4-year training program at universities.

Bachelor Degree

  • This is a degree awarded to those who have graduated from a Bachelor's program at a university. These programs often give you both general knowledge and specialized knowledge.
  • Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Engineering, Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Economics… Undergraduate training programs usually last from 3 to 4 years.

Graduate Diploma

  • This is not a master's degree but a graduate degree. This degree is popular in countries that follow the anglo-saxon education system.
  • This is a program for those who have graduated with a bachelor's degree in A, but want to study an additional major of B. For example, a graduate student majoring in Literature but wants to pursue a graduate program in Culture. In addition, this is also an option for those who cannot afford to pursue a master's program.

Master Degree

  • In English, the word "master" refers to those who have in-depth knowledge of a certain field. Currently, this is the most popular degree at the graduate level, with degrees corresponding to majors such as Master of Arts, Master of Law, Master of Economics...
  • To get a master's degree, you usually need to have a bachelor's degree in the relevant major. However, some programs may still accept people with a bachelor's degree from a different major, but with real work experience
  • Master's programs usually last from one to two years depending on the education background of each country. In the US it is usually 2 years.

Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D)

  • Doctoral programs are usually 3-4 years or more, the program does not have a specific number of years because its length depends on work performance. PhD students usually have to publish at least 3 scientific articles in professional journals before they can defend their thesis.
  • In the British and Australian education systems, there are three types of doctorates: Ph.D. (Doctor of Philosophy) for all disciplines – including medicine, M.D. (Doctor of Medicine) specifically for medicine, and D.Sc. (Doctor of Science) specializes in the sciences. However, the D.Sc. (Doctor of Science) from Australia and the UK is not quite the same as the US degree.
  • In the US, the highest degree is a Ph.D. with degrees like D.Sc. (Doctor of Science), Ed.D. (Doctor of Education, Doctor of Education), Dr. P.H. (Doctor of Public Health, Doctor of Public Health)…

Doctoral degree and Doctor

  • There is a clear distinction in Vietnamese (at least in terms of names) between Doctor of Philosophy and doctors, but in English, those who receive an M.D. or a Ph.D. or a D.Sc are also referred to as "doctors." .
  • Of course, there are still differences between the Australian/UK and US training and qualification processes. If medical students in the US will have to study for a bachelor's degree before studying medicine as a graduate study, then in Australia and the UK you can go straight to medical schools after graduating. Thus, in these two countries, graduating from a medical program is still considered an undergraduate, even though they still have the title of doctor.

After completing their medical “bachelor”, doctors in Australia/UK can apply for Ph.D or M.D programs to become professional scientists.
