Doctoral degree and Doctor
- There is a clear distinction in Vietnamese (at least in terms of names) between Doctor of Philosophy and doctors, but in English, those who receive an M.D. or a Ph.D. or a D.Sc are also referred to as "doctors." .
- Of course, there are still differences between the Australian/UK and US training and qualification processes. If medical students in the US will have to study for a bachelor's degree before studying medicine as a graduate study, then in Australia and the UK you can go straight to medical schools after graduating. Thus, in these two countries, graduating from a medical program is still considered an undergraduate, even though they still have the title of doctor.
After completing their medical “bachelor”, doctors in Australia/UK can apply for Ph.D or M.D programs to become professional scientists.
