London continues to hold the number one position in the ranking of the best global study abroad cities, according to the QS Top Universities Rankings.
Each year, QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) searches and ranks cities as the best study abroad destinations in the world, based on criteria such as affordability, aspirations and opinions of international students themselves. The criteria will be scored separately and calculated using a general formula to give an overall rating on a scale of 100.
According to QS's June 29 announcement, this year, of the 110 cities assessed, 58 increased, 6 remained the same and 46 downgraded. The top 10 best study abroad cities in 2023 are as follows:
No. | Cities | Assessment score |
1 | London (Britain) | 100 |
=2 | Munich (Germany) | 95,1 |
=2 | Seoul (Korea) | 95,1 |
4 | Zurich (Switzerland) | 95 |
5 | Melbourne (Australia) | 93,3 |
6 | Berlin (Germany) | 93,2 |

8 | Paris (France) | 92,4 |

Once again, first place went to London as the city received outstanding scores on student diversity, learner aspirations and recruitment activities. The large concentration of world-class universities also enhances the status of this city.
"The feedback from students studying in London shows that this is a place that offers outstanding cultural, economic and educational opportunities. Holding two positions in the world's 10 best universities, London maintains its status as a leading education hub," said Ben Sowter, QS Senior Vice President.
Compared to last year, the top 3 best study abroad cities in the world have not changed, as Seoul and Munich are tied for second place. While Munich stands out for its overall student experience score (94.9 points), Seoul has an advantage in the number of excellent training units (100 points).
Berlin dropped one notch, swapping melbourne's position to reach sixth place in this year's results, retaining its appeal as the ideal study abroad destination. This city is highly appreciated in factors such as economy, safety, environment and the feeling of international students who have been studying.
It is worth noting that Edinburgh has entered the top 10 study abroad cities in the world, up two places from the previous year. It is highly regarded for its proportion of international and domestic students, as well as the level of acceptance and integration of students with the community.
The representatives of Asia are not many, but countries with developed education such as Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore ... are still ideal study abroad destinations when ranking high in the top 20 of the ranking.
